Who Does the U.S. Visa Bond Apply to?

Not every international traveler faces the U.S. Visa Bond requirement, but for those who do, the stakes are significant.

The U.S. Department of State has designated 50 countries whose citizens must post a bond when applying for a B-1/B-2 visitor visa. The list includes 30 African nations, 9 Asian countries, 5 from North America and the Caribbean, 5 from Oceania, and 1 from South America. The selection is based on visa overstay rates.

One important distinction: travelers from these countries who already hold a valid B-1/B-2 visa are exempt. The requirement applies to new applications and renewals.
